Upcoming Invitations and Speaking Events – Dr. Thomas Pool, PhD., HCLD

Meet Dr. Pool, he is a world-renowned embryologist, director of our center’s assisted reproductive technology laboratory, and a founding member of the Fertility Center of San Antonio! Dr. Pool is a pioneer in the field of embryology and has been integral to the development of culture media in which embryos grow in IVF laboratories. Being a former CAP inspector of IVF laboratories, which is a very rare asset, procures the best quality assurance and quality control in our IVF lab.

Dr. Pool is board-certified as a High complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD). The esteemed lab director is an active member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Americal Association of Biolanalysts (AAB) and the Pacific Coast Fertility Society. Dr. Pool served as the Chairman of the College of Reproductive Biology of the AAB from 2000-2001. He was also a member of the Practice Committee of the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology, and he worked with the CDC to develop a model inspection program for embryo labs throughout the United States. Dr. Pool is currently is the laboratory inspector for the Accreditation Program of the College of American Pathologists and has helped organize international symposia on fertility and early human development. Additionally, Dr. Pool reviews several reproduction and genetics journals and is the Section Editor for Reproductive BioMedicine Online. Dr. Pool was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Society of Reproductive Biologists and Technologists at ASRM 2018.

Dr. Pool has recently been invited to join the Scientific Advisory Board of Fujifilm Irvine Scientific; an international company that provides culture media and laboratory supplies to embryology and andrology laboratories worldwide.

March 12, 2020: Dr. Pool is invited to be an honored speaker for the Northern California Association of Reproductive Biologists (NCARB) at Standford University.

March 20-21, 2020: He is an invited speaker at Ovatools Third Annual Symposium on Assisted Reproduction in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Annual Meeting of the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society– Dr. Pool will be giving two invited presentations in late March.

College of Reproductive Biologists at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Bioanalysts, Orlando, Florida, in early May 2020.

Dr. Pool has been invited to deliver the “Ian Johnston Memorial Lecture” next September at the annual meeting of the Fertility Society of Australia in Hobart, Tasmania. He was also invited to present two lectures to the Australian embryologists at the same meeting.

He is an invited speaker to the Merck Symposium, held the day prior to the Fertility Society meetings in Hobart. In October, he will be on the faculty of a postgraduate course offered on behalf of the Society of Reproductive Biologists and Technologists at the annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Pool has an invited editorial that he co-authored with Dr. David Gardner from the University of Melbourne to appear in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Reproductive BioMedicine Online. Also, he is completing an invited book chapter with Dr. Michael Reed of New Mexico, one that will appear in a European textbook on embryo culture sometime next year. He also has just begun his final year on the Board of Directors of the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society.
