Our On-site Andrology and Embryology Laboratory: Where Science Meets Technology
Inability to conceive can be caused by reproductive issues in either partner. A thorough analysis is necessary to determine which treatment options will most likely succeed in your case. Our andrology and embryology laboratory, located in our San Antonio office, makes testing and analysis easier, more accurate, and less time-consuming. Equipped with the latest diagnostic technology and operated by a specially trained staff, our laboratory provides rapid and reliable results to guide our doctors in prescribing patients with case-specific treatment plans. If you are faced with infertility issues, contact us today to learn how our services can help you achieve your goals of starting a family.
What is Andrology?
Andrology is the study and treatment of diseases and issues that are specific to men – the opposite of gynecology, which focuses on women. Our laboratory specialists will perform a comprehensive semen analysis to help determine if the male partner’s reproductive system is operating properly. Common causes of male infertility include low volumes of healthy sperm, problems with sexual arousal or ejaculation, and hormone disorders. If the analysis indicates a problem, the results will help our doctors more accurately diagnose a specific condition. Once the cause of male infertility is determined, Drs. Martin, Neal, Retzloff and Adams can decide which treatment options are appropriate and effective for your specific needs.
What is Embryology?
Embryology is a biological science concerned with the study of embryos (fertilized eggs) and their development into fetuses. An embryologist plays a vital role in many infertility treatments. For instance, in vitro fertilization (IVF) involves fertilizing an egg with sperm outside of the mother’s body. When other methods of assisted reproduction have failed, an IVF program may offer you the best chance of success. Our embryologist and laboratory director, Dr. Gary D. Smith, is present throughout the entire IVF process. He will educate you on your treatment and expertly care for the embryo during its beginning stages of life. Our exceptional success rates speak to the quality of care that we provide, and our state-of-the-art laboratory is where much of that success begins.
The Benefits of an On-Site Lab
The total length of your fertility treatment depends on numerous factors, including the amount of testing needed and the exact procedure that you decide upon. As a pioneer in infertility treatments and the first to offer an office-based IVF program in Texas, Dr. Joseph Martin and the Fertility Center of San Antonio are dedicated to making the fertility evaluation process simple, comfortable, and successful. By providing an andrology and embryology laboratory on-site, we eliminate the need to send samples to an outside laboratory for examination and a potentially lengthy wait for the return of your results.
